IN THEATERS (LIMITED RELEASE):

Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths: An award-winning director returns to his native Mexico, sparking a series of dreamlike reveries, etc. ‘s obligatory 8 1/2 movie largely disappointed critics; he trimmed it down from 174 to a mere 152 minutes to make it easier to take. In theaters until December 16, when it heads to Netflix. Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths at Netflix.

Something in the Dirt: Two men document supernatural events in L.A., leading them down a paranoid rabbit hole. Staying indie despite the lure of Hollywood, and are back with a sci-fi mindbender one critic calls “their oddest, most esoteric dramedy yet, a tale quirky and weird...” Rustic Films official Facebook site.

NEW ON HOME VIDEO:

Daisies (1966): Read the Canonically Weird entry! It’s finally here! The Criterion Collection 4K restoration of the anarchic Czech New Wave classic includes commentaries, talking heads interviews, and two rare short films from . Buy Daisies.

The Evil Dead (1981)/Evil Dead II (1987): Read the Canonically Weird entry for Evil Dead II! Lionsgate releases a double-feature UHD/Blu-ray of the first two films in the ED franchise; supplements unknown. Buy The Evil Dead (1981)/Evil Dead II (1987).

Sharknado: The Complete Collection”: Read our review of Sharknado. Suckers for punishment will want to buy the entire six film output of Asylum’s Sharknado factory. Most people forgot about the briefly viral series the day after the first one premiered on the Syfy channel. Buy “Sharknado: The Complete Collection.”

Starship Troopers (1997): Read the reader-recommendation. Paul Verhoeven’s satire-ish sci-fi action film still divides viewers over whether its knowing camp, or just an entertainingly bad movie. Sony releases it in a 4K restoration on UHD in a collectible steelbook edition with hours of recycled extras plus a new 25th anniversary cast reunion. Buy Starship Troopers.
