Our weekly look at what’s weird in theaters, on hot-off-the-presses DVDs and Blu-rays (and hot off the server VODs), and on more distant horizons…
Trailers of new release movies are generally available at the official site links.
IN THEATERS (LIMITED RELEASE):
L’odge D’oor, or All Things with Eyes Must Sleep (2022): Describes itself as an unofficial sequel to The Phantom of Liberty. Jean-Claude Carrière (Phantom‘s co-writer) shows up as God. This popped up out of nowhere, playing exclusively (as far as we can tell) this week at Village East by Angelica in Manhattan. L’odge D’oor official Facebook page.
NEW ON HOME VIDEO:
All Jacked up and Full of Worms (2022): Read Giles Edwards’ festival review. The weird little indie about depraved worm addicts is exclusively on VOD (free to anyone with a Screambox subscription). Rent or buy All Jacked up and Full of Worms.
Earth Girls Are Easy (1988): Read Giles Edwards’ review. Would you believe that this very 80s Valley-Girl-meets-aliens comedy had never been issued on Blu-ray until just now? Yes, you would? Well, here it is anyway. Buy Earth Girls Are Easy.
Incredible but True [Incroyable mais Vrais] (2022): Read Giles Edwards’ festival review. A couple buys a house that allows them to time-travel 12 hours into the future… but this is a Quentin Dupieux comedy, so of course there’s a lot more to it than that. On Blu-ray, simultaneously debuting on VOD. Buy Incredible but True.
She Will (2021): Recovery from surgery, an aging film star (Alice Krige) visits a remote town in Scotland where the soil is thought to have healing powers thanks to the witches who were burned there centuries before. “Dario Argento presents” Charlotte Colbert’s directorial debut, which critics have described as quietly unsettling. Now on DVD or Blu-ray, or streaming on AMC+ or Shudder. Buy She Will.
Vide Noir (2022): Vernon’s search for his missing fiancée leads him to take a novel psychedelic drug in a neon-lit city. This release caught us by surprise, but fans of the band Lord Huron, whose 2018 album this movie is based on, have been eagerly awaiting it . VOD only. Buy or rent Vide Noir.

CANONICALLY WEIRD (AND OTHER) REPERTORY SCREENINGS:
This section will no longer be updated regularly. Instead, we direct you to our new “Repertory Cinemas Near You” page. We will continue to mention exceptional events in this space from time to time, however.
FREE ONLINE WEIRD MOVIES ON YOUTUBE:
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968): Read the Canonically Weird entry! Stanley Kubrick‘s cosmic sci-fi masterpiece comes to YouTube for free viewing. CAPITALISM RUN AMOK WARNING: a brief watch suggests that YouTube (or at least this particular video) have greatly expanded the number of interruptive ads they slap onto free offerings. Watch 2001: A Space Odyssey free on YouTube.
WHAT’S IN THE PIPELINE:
We’re still taking suggestions, votes, and RSVPs for a Nov. 19 Weird Watch Party. Current suggestions are Possum (2018), Modus Operandi (2009), and Gallino, the Chicken System (2021). All of them are on Tubi, so these options would require us to set up a Discord server for the first time. Add your input here.
We still have no major announcements. Stay tuned for further notices about potential announcements.
In next week’s reviews, Shane Wilson again goes to the reader-suggestion queue for another rarity—René Laloux‘s child-friendly Fantastic Planet followup Time Masters (1982). Giles Edwards appraises 1986’s overlooked dreamy Japanese classic To Sleep so as to Dream. Finally, Gregory J. Smalley weighs in on a series you might already be watching: Guillermo del Toro‘s “Cabinet of Curiosities.” Onward and weirdward!
What are you looking forward to? If you have any weird movie leads that we have overlooked, feel free to leave them in the COMMENTS section.
