Please do not ask “what was that movie?” questions on this page. We set up an entire site here to answer those questions. This page is for suggesting movies to be reviewed.
Know a weird movie? Something strange that glued you to the screen with awe, amazement or reverence, while your more mundane minded friends left the room (or theater) in boredom, confusion or disgust? A movie whose omission from a list of the 366 weirdest movies of all time would offend you on a personal level? Something even I haven’t heard of or considered? There are potentially thousands of forgotten films, critically dismissed films, foreign or independent films that never got a proper release, or misplaced oddities hiding out there that may deserve a place at the table. One man can’t be expected to track them all down. Here is the place to mention those treasured curios that no one else seems to have even heard of. Nominate a movie in the suggestion box and I’ll move it up on my review queue, or at the very least, explain why I’m not going to review it.
NOTICE: The “Suggest of Weird Movie!” feature has become a victim of its own success. At the time of this update, we have about 250 reader suggestions (!) in queue. (More than that since I last updated the page)! Since we can only do 1 or maybe 2 reviews a week, be aware there may be a huge delay—currently, possibly over a year!—between the time you make a suggestion and the point at which it’s actually reviewed. I considered shutting down the suggestion box as of 2011, but I decided to let you keep your suggestions coming (if nothing else, it tells us what types of movies readers are interested in seeing reviews of). Just be aware that when you make a suggestion, it may not receive the promptest of attention. The best you can really hope for at this point is to bring something to our attention that we might have overlooked. (Also note that although we prioritize the earliest nominations later suggestions may get reviewed before earlier ones if they receive a re-release on DVD or Blu-ray, or interest us for our own inscrutable reasons).
If you can’t wait for one of our staff to review your movie, why not review it yourself and submit it to us via the contact form? We can’t swear we’ll publish every submission we receive, but we want reader participation and we are fairly liberal.
All serious suggestions will receive a response, as well as all most non-serious ones.
Here’s the review queue of reader suggestions that have yet to be reviewed, in alphabetical order. Of course, at this point the list is so long that it is likely we will have to leave the task of reviewing the items at the end of the list to our children, but whatever.
Also, the List is now completed, meaning that these suggestions will be considered for our supplemental “Apocrypha” list, and many will sadly never be reviewed or considered. You may consider them all as reader-suggested honorable mentions.

Would Francis Ford Coppala’s short Disney parks film Captain EO be considered weird?
I don’t know. Seems doubtful, given that Disney screened it for so many years. Can it be seen anywhere anymore?
I think it’s on YouTube
Was the movie EO ever considered?
Nope. It was literally the next 2022 movie I was going to screen for regular awards consideration before the clock ran out, but it was never on our “weird” shortlist.
Was Fool’s Fire (1992) ever discussed?
No, but I can add it to the queue. It may be hard to track down, but it’s a Julie Taymor production of Edgar Allen Poe’s “Hop-Frog” (a personal favorite) with creepy masks.
Divine Intervention (2002) is a movie I’m not sure is considered weird but not many art house movies begin with Santa Claus running from children with knives
unsure if Toys (1992) has been suggested, but i think it’s worth a watch!
Sorry for any delay in responding, been busy. Parmesan: I think “Divine Intervention” would qualify, from what I see.
lithping: yes, “Toys” is already in the queue.
Just watched Watson’s “Lot (in Sodom)” which I’ve been wanting to see for a long time. Disappointing but weird nonetheless. Gay or homo-erotic, I don’t know. However, i don’t see it on either the main list, the apocryphal list or in any of the reviews. Not much to see, but a curio nonetheless.
Walter Hill’s acid western Wild Bill might worth a look. It has shifts from unreal colors to grainy b&w video flashbacks, and an odd metafictional structure. The second weirdest western of 1995 after Dead Man.
Oh, this reminds me: Quick Billy. A completely abstract experience of light and sound begins slowly integrating “life on the farm” diary film elements and then, unexpectedly, swerves into a straightforward pastiche of a 1910s Western.
The Roe’s Room. A surreal opera executed mainly on the level of symbolism, made for European TV in ’97.
We could definitely look at The Roe’s Room.
There is a mini series called The Middle Man, I haven’t seen the entirety but you can’t deny reviewing a show that was rejected from Israeli television because it was too strange, also there is a talking fish
Sorry on being so late getting back to you on this, we can add “The Middleman” to the queue. Looks like it’s playing on the Criterion Channel at the moment if anyone’s interested in it.
Here’s an old favorite of mine, lensed in Michigan: The Carrier (1987). Story of a small-town pariah who’s infected with a disease(?) that causes everything inanimate he touches to consume living flesh. He, as the carrier, is immune to the effect. This, naturally, leads to a localized war over the possession of stray cats (people are using them to test the safety of potentially infected objects). Low budget but professionally made, it finally got a Blu-ray release just a few years ago.
We can add it to the queue, Brad D.
Harlequin/Dark Forces (1980)
surreal ozploitation with great visuals!
An ambitious Australian senator’s son is cured of leukaemia by a faith healer, but he discovers that there is a high price to pay. The senator is overjoyed when his son is pronounced well, but then he learns that the mysterious healer has seduced his wife and is threatening to disrupt his political career.
That looks familiar, but I don’t believe it has been mentioned before. I’ll add Harlequin to the queue.
Tricia’s Wedding, a unhinged 33 minute drag queen reenactment of Tricia Nixon’s wedding
OK, will add “Tricia’s Wedding” to the queue. (It’s currently on the Criterion Channel, btw, probably in honor of Pride Month).
Psychos in Love (1987). On blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome and streaming on Night Flight and Flix Fling. A wonderfully bizarre horror-romcom-parody, with some meta thrown in, about a strip-club owner and a mancurist who bond over a shared hatred of grapes and fall in love once they realize they are each serial killers. And there is a cannibal plumber. Then it goes off the rails (in the best, kinda Mel Brooks way) near the end. Endearingly bizarre, dark, and fun, I hope you’ll add Pyschos to the watch list if not there already. Thanks!
Not as weird as the other stuff on here but White Noise (2022) does have slivers of weirdness despite being more offbeat
I will try to fit it into my watch schedule, but no promises on that one.
Has Tsukamoto’s follow-up to Tetsuo Iron Man/major studio debut Hiroku the Goblin been mentioned? if you haven’t seen Japan’s answer to Cronenberg go full-camp a la Sam Raimi, it’s a well-done and way underrated weird watch
Hiroku is actually one of the few Tsukamoto films we have yet to mention. It should go in the queue.
For a Saturday Short, I would like to recommend Jack Stauber’s Opal. It’s a surreal and nightmarish claymation musical short, and saying anything more would spoil it if you haven’t already seen it.
Also, what about The Great Satan from Doggiewoggiez creators Everything is Terrible
I highly recommend the Japanese movie Calamari Wrestler. It is really out there.
Anonymous, thanks for the tip on “Opal” and we’ll add “The Great Satan” to that massive queue next update.
Alexander, someone beat you to it: “Calamari Wrestler” is already in the queue.
If u are accepting shorts then may I suggest The Beaning, basically picture Haxan but it involves baseball
Yes you may. All shorts are available for Apocrypha consideration (but are rarely chosen). Shorts that are uploaded by the copyright holder to a third-party site that allows embedding and have no content issues can be considered as Saturday shorts, as well. So we will take a look at “The Beaning.”
Was wondering if Bloody New Year was suggested?
No, but we can consider it—I think it would have a low chance of making the Apocrypha, but I haven’t seen it.
I add Shin Kamen Rider to the suggestion. Movie is real weird and quirky. Also Beau is Afraid has to be added to the Apocrypha list movie is weird AF.
There’s a chance Giles may get to Shin Kamen Rider at Fantasia soon. Otherwise, we can look at it down the line. We do like to let recent releases simmer on the back burner for a good while before apocryphisizing them.
Would The Shooting be a good candidate
(I know it was talked about on this site)
Whew. Been a while since I’ve visited this page. Just saw clips from the Brazilian musical Super Xuxa vs. Satan (1988). Might be worth a peek?
Parmesan: I am doubtful. If I happen to see it I will make a decision then, but as you say it’s already been reviewed, and it’s not on my near-term to watch list.
Morgan: Sure, if it made you think of us again after all this time Super Xuxa vs. Satan (1988) must be weird! I’ll add it to the queue next update.
Has anyone recommended The Coming of Sin (La visita del vicio), 1978? It’s in the new Jose Larraz boxset which I think you covered in a recent podcast, so it might also be streaming now. There’s some interesting blurring of nightmare and reality with a couple very surreal scenes.
Nope. On your recommendation I’ll enqueue it.
Considering you looked at In Search of the Titanic, what about the other animated Titanic movies (The Legend of the Titanic and Titanic: The Legend Goes On), both of which are phenomenally awful and super bad taste, as well as weird as fuck, and I think would at least be capsule material.
NOTE: accidentally left this comment as a reply. Ignore that one.
How about the norwegian, swedish and danish produced movie Hunger (1966). It has a weird experimental soundtrack from the polish jazz composer Krzysztof Komeda and is filmed in black and white. All the sets are from the old parts of Oslo (the norwegian capital) (all of the old city parts have been tragically destroyed).
The atmosphaere is creepy, disturbing and of course it has a surreal, nightmarish quality that reflects the bleak and gritty book of the same name.

Ups, double comment :()
Sorry I’m late responding, had a very busy weekend.
Anonymous, not to speak for him, but Shane might be interested in another Titanic. Which one do you suggest?
Namreh, Hunger would probably be good. I read the novel years ago and I assumed someone must have adapted it into a movie, although this is the first time I can recall anyone suggesting it. I’ll put it in queue and worry about finding a copy later.
If I had to choose one, it’s The Legend of the Titanic, the predecessor to In Search of the Titanic, as it’s plot is the most incomprehensible. Titanic, The Legend Goes On’s plot is more standard, but is equally batshit crazy.
Thank you for narrowing it down.
Is Poor Things, Yorgos Lanthimos’ newest film in the pipeline?
I’m certain we’ll review it on release, we’re anticipating it highly.
Is Dream Scenario starring Nicholas Cage in the pipeline
We’ll decide when it gets released in November.
Will you be checking out The Boy and the Heron? I thought it would be at least Capsule worthy.
Of course, once we can see it.
Here is my suggestion: Iguana Tokyo (2022) by the Turkish director named Kaan Müjdeci. This is a film about the blurring line of virtual and reality.
I can add Iguana Tokyo to the queue and keep an eye out for it, not sure how easy it will be to catch.
Weird one to suggest, but I would like to propose Emesis Blue, a film made in the Team Fortress 2 SFM engine, but unlike other videos made with that software, this takes a psychological horror route rather than a comedic route. Link here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V0ODG8bFme0&pp=ygULZW1lc2lzIGJsdWU%3D
“Weird one to suggest” is exactly the kind of suggestion we’re looking for. I’ll put it in queue.
A historical film called Maggots and Men (2009) which casts mostly trans actors and is very similar to the works of Guy Maddin
Also for Saturday Short maybe The Amazing Digital Circus
OK, I can add Maggots and Men to the queue. I also bookmarked “The Amazing Digital Circus” for later viewing.
Madame X: An Absolute Ruler (1977)
Freak Orlando (1981)
Of those two, I’ll enqueue Freak Orlando (1981), which has been suggested before (and which I thought was already in the queue but which I now see is not).
Visitors from the Arkana Galaxy: A bizarro sci-fi comedy from Czechoslovakia/Yugoslavia featuring breast feeding dads, nude villagers and a giant freakish monster designed by the one and only Jan Svankmajer! It recently got a solid release from Deaf Crocodile and it’s worth a look.
Nice catch, Devon. We missed that as a new release (not sure how, we usually keep an eye on Deaf Crocodile). I’ll add it to the queue.
“Divinity” which by the way, is one of the worst movies of the year!
Crazy credit: Elon Musk on the “thank you” list.
I saw this comment on my admin dashboard, but actually assumed it was posted on the “Divinity” review: https://366weirdmovies.com/fantasia-2023-apocrypha-candidate-divinity-2023/
It might be a weird suggestion since it’s very well known but The Polar Express is very weird when u think about the details like how no one thinks it’s strange a train randomly appears in a street, a train tunnel that looks like a sharp fanged creature, a man voiced by Tom Hanks who lives on top of the train who is implied to be dead but maybe it’s just me
I’ve never seen it and although I’m skeptical, I believe you are not the first person to suggest “Polar Express,” so I’ll add it next update.
Would the [adult swim] project This House Has People in It be in consideration? I know it’s not technically a film, but the whole story, including all the material on the site [videos, audio logs, and text logs] clocks in at around 2 hours, and the story it tells is probably one of the most unsettling I’ve ever seen, it follows a nightmare logic where lots of weird things happen without a complete explanation, there’s lots of unsettling implications, and there’s only so much information given to complete part of the picture, not the whole story. I at least think it could be interesting for some sort of mention if it hasn’t shown up already, but I’m not sure if it’d fit given the rules of the site.
https://366weirdmovies.com/saturday-short-this-house-has-people-in-it-2016/
But we aren’t currently considering adding it to the Apocrypha.
I might replace my previous suggestion with Fresh Kill which undoubtedly is weird such as people randomly speaking in a different language or there being a special kind of fish with lipstick, aswell as cult-like tv commercials and this is 21 minutes in
Colour me intrigued.
Boss-man, we got room on the big honkin’ to-do list for this kind of thing?
Giles, if you find it, you can review it. The entire reader-suggested queue is open to review.
I would recommend Brainscan (1994). Sci-fi/Horror. A lonely teenage horror-movie fan discovers a mysterious computer game that uses hypnosis to custom-tailor the player’s experience.
