A grotesque rabbit (who might be the stop-motion cousin of the dude from Donnie Darko) assembles a cast of tiny mutant animals for a royal bacchanalia; it ends badly.
Wow, that was WILDLY creative and beautifully done! I can’t imagine the hours spent simply making each creature, let alone doing the setups for each of their movements. The soundtrack is also stunning, immersing the viewer and enhancing the story. The title, LES BÊTES, loosely translates to The Silly or Stupid, and deftly applies to the condescending and pampered denizens of the King’s court. Their comeuppance is richly deserved, and the “rebirth” at the end is beautiful and uplifting. This short deserves 5 stars!
