Our weekly look at what’s weird in theaters, on hot-off-the-presses DVDs, and on more distant horizons…
Trailers of new release movies are generally available on the official site links.
IN DEVELOPMENT:
Oh My Goth! (est. 2015?): A rogue alien from a cemetery planet who spends his time abducting hot Earth babes to his satellite castle teams up with ninjas and rabbis to repel an invasion from his superiors that would ruin his nightly Goth parties. This weirdly conceived rock n’ roll/comedy is an adaptation of Goth polymath Aurelio Voltaire‘s comic book. Read more at voltaire.net (you’ll have to scroll down the page to find the announcement).
NEW ON DVD:
The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec (2010): In 1911 Paris, author/adventurer Adèle Blanc-Sec deals with a recently hatched pterodactyl. This fantasy-adventure from Luc Besson was an expensive production by French standards, but went completely unnoticed on this side of the pond—until now. Buy The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec.
Reality (2012): A fishmonger becomes so obsessed with appearing on the Italian version of the “Big Brother” reality TV show that he loses touch with reality. This satire has surreal moments and is earned a lot of comparisons to the works of Fellini. Buy Reality.
Seconds (1966): A banker accepts an offer by a mysterious corporation to undergo a procedure that will give him a second life and turns into swinging single Rock Hudson; he discovers his new lease on life was not all he had hoped for in this speculative 1960s oddity from John Frankenheimer featuring crazy camerawork. The Criterion Collection gives this cult sci-fi item a second chance to find an audience. Buy Seconds (Criterion Collection).
Suzune Genesis [AKA The Parasite Doctor Suzune: Genesis] (2011): Per distributor Tokyo Shock: “When your body is bursting with all kinds of erotic parasites, the only person that can save you is Dr. Suzune!” There’s no info on this one anywhere, but we suggest a blind buy based on that tagline. This is part one of a series continued in Parasite Doctor Suzune: Evolution. This DVD originally went on sale back in March, then disappeared in an apparent recall, only to reappear now. Buy Suzune Genesis.
NEW ON BLU-RAY:
