Suggest a Weird Movie!

Please do not ask “what was that movie?” questions on this page. We set up an entire site here to answer those questions. This page is for suggesting movies to be reviewed.

Know a weird movie? Something strange that glued you to the screen with awe, amazement or reverence, while your more mundane minded friends left the room (or theater) in boredom, confusion or disgust? A movie whose omission from a list of the 366 weirdest movies of all time would offend you on a personal level? Something even I haven’t heard of or considered? There are potentially thousands of forgotten films, critically dismissed films, foreign or independent films that never got a proper release, or misplaced oddities hiding out there that may deserve a place at the table. One man can’t be expected to track them all down. Here is the place to mention those treasured curios that no one else seems to have even heard of. Nominate a movie in the suggestion box and I’ll move it up on my review queue, or at the very least, explain why I’m not going to review it.

NOTICE: The “Suggest of Weird Movie!” feature has become a victim of its own success.  At the time of this update, we have about 250 reader suggestions (!) in queue. (More than that since I last updated the page)! Since we can only do 1 or maybe 2 reviews a week, be aware there may be a huge delay—currently, possibly over a year!—between the time you make a suggestion and the point at which it’s actually reviewed.  I considered shutting down the suggestion box as of 2011, but I decided to let you keep your suggestions coming (if nothing else, it tells us what types of movies readers are interested in seeing reviews of). Just be aware that when you make a suggestion, it may not receive the promptest of attention. The best you can really hope for at this point is to bring something to our attention that we might have overlooked. (Also note that although we prioritize the earliest nominations later suggestions may get reviewed before earlier ones if they receive a re-release on DVD or Blu-ray, or interest us for our own inscrutable reasons).

If you can’t wait for one of our staff to review your movie, why not review it yourself and submit it to us via the contact form?  We can’t swear we’ll publish every submission we receive, but we want reader participation and we are fairly liberal.

All serious suggestions will receive a response, as well as all most non-serious ones.

  1. Here’s the review queue of reader suggestions that have yet to be reviewed, in alphabetical order. Of course, at this point the list is so long that it is likely we will have to leave the task of reviewing the items at the end of the list to our children, but whatever.

Also, the List is now completed, meaning that these suggestions will be considered for our supplemental “Apocrypha” list, and many will sadly never be reviewed or considered. You may consider them all as reader-suggested honorable mentions.

    1. Given the recent review mentioning the lack of weird westerns, I instantly thought of “Walker” (1987) by Alex Cox.

  2. Saint Bernard (2013); available as a HD Download on VIMEO and on Blu-ray from Severin Films. 100% Weird.

  3. What a fantastic resource has been created here! I’ve never come across a community, online or otherwise, in which there was such a synchronicity with my own weekly film nights with friends. 99% of our favourites are either on the list or mentioned somewhere on the site but I’d like to suggest one I couldn’t find reference to: Věra Chytilová’s follow up to ‘Daises’, 1969’s ‘The Fruit of Paradise’ (‘Ovoce Stromu Rajských Jíme’). A beautiful, woozy, cheeky, dream fable. Keep up the good work and thank you for introducing me to some new ones. Cheers!

  4. “Blue My Mind”
A coming-of-age horror movie from Switzerland about a girl slowly turning into a fish.

  5. 3 weird films for consideration:Blue Sunshine,Private Parts(1972),and Sisters with Margot Kidder.

  6. John Frankenheimer’s Seconds (1966) is an amazing film. Surprised it hasn’t been suggested.

  7. If you’re taking Channel 366 recommendations now… TV doesn’t get much weirder than Robert Ashley’s Perfect Lives and Xavier: Renegade Angel.

    1. Sure, we can add Perfect Lives to the queue. At 3 hours it’s essentially a long TV movie (I’m not sure if it was originally broadcast in episodes or as a whole). We’ve always covered some TV, and with the List now completed and cinema’s landscape shifting towards streaming, we’ll probably do more and more in the coming years.

  8. Hi there, I’m following your site more than eight years now and I gotta say that my best movies list has been filled out with movie’s from your suggestions. Not to mention our movie night’s which turned out with more strange emotions thanks to you. Now, I’ve watched a movie last night called:Creep(2014).A horror and a bit disturbing footage movie about a stalker. Thing is that there is no horror image or blood or something like it and the main surreal/scary scene (close to the end) is taking place in mid day at a usual park. I was so certain that I would read an extended critic review about it in your site but I found nothing. I know there are so many movies for you to check them out but consider to add this too to your watching list. Thanks in advance.

  9. Not movies but tv series mentions. Not for suggested reviews just for others who read the Readers Suggestions posts (though of course review them if you like).

Note that some of these are already reviewed on 366. Plus i would say that some arent truly “weird” but are at least pushing towards it or at least not run of the mill normal if that makes sense.

    Firstly…
    Dream Corp LLC (2016- )
    Food Party (2009-2010)
Jam (2000) (possibly everybody that comes to 366 has already seen this???)
    Kaiba (2008)
Look Around You (2002-2005) (only the 1st season)
    The Shivering Truth (2018- )

    Honourable mentions…
Check It Out! with Dr Steve Brule (2010-2017)
    Danger 5 (2011-2015)
The Eric Andre Show (2012- )
    Off the Air (2011- )
    Xavier: Renegade Angel (2007-2009)
    Weird Anime Excel Saga (1999-2001)
and some of the Adult Swim Infomercials/Once-offs (some have already been in the Saturday Shorts) – This House Has People In It, Too Many Cooks, Unedited Footage of a Bear, Cool Dad Trailer, Live At the Necropolis: Lords of the Synth

Bigger budget/mainstream ones that have their moments…
    American Gods
Atlanta (its mostly normal but as a series it happily goes off normal and even pushing weird in some episodes in both seasons now)
    Legion
    Mr Robot
    Too Old to Die Young

  10. What’s the “etiquette” in the readers suggestions thread in regards to posting links? Would be great to post links to trailers etc when recommending something as opposed to just writing the name of the recommendation.

Is there a limit to posting links? Obviously no links that are illegal/piracy but some are a bit more uncertain. Say for example in regards to Food Party.

Food Party has a bunch of full episodes shared on youtube. As it started out as a web series and given the content, obscurity and nature of the show I get the feeling that the creators involved wouldn’t mind them being there but the IP lawyers etc probably feel otherwise. So is sharing a link to a full episode of something like that a no no?

I only see it as giving further exposure to a wonderfully creative show. Its not like its some popular big budget series.

    1. First, a practical note: if you post more than two links in a comment it’s likely that our anti-spam service will flag it and the comment could be lost.

Second, your instincts are pretty good here. Trailers or official promotional clips are always OK to post, pirate links are never OK to post. As far as anything else goes: generally, if it’s up on YouTube or Vimeo, it’s OK to post, unless it’s a screamingly obvious copyright violation of something that’s available for sale elsewhere. Just use common sense.

For example, a user named Thu Tran (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz3kuPs3xTdV94Kh7-mQc_Q) has posted some episodes of “Food Party.” Those seem legit.

  11. You like Ruiz and you like the Saragossa Manuscript, so you owe it to yourself to check out Love Torn In A Dream.

  12. Nc: Hopefully everyone at this site is familiar with Jam. One of the great surreal (lizard) tv shows ever.

  13. I don’t know if it quite fits your criteria as it’s a live variety show that’s taped for a local tv station (or was until they lost their sponsor) but I would like to suggest Paul Anthony’s Talent Time. They have about one season’s worth of episodes on amazon prime:

    https://www.amazon.com/100-Telethon/dp/B0793L2LFD/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=“Paul+Anthony”&qid=1575616395&s=instant-video&sr=1-1

It’s a really, really amazingly weird, and heartfelt show from Vancouver Canada. I’ve been to a bunch of their shows live and it’s always a good time where you never know what you’re going to get as anything can happen and it pretty much always goes off the rails. It ranges from them doing an entire show high on magic mushrooms to seeing a guy sing while pouring milk all over himself to crazy Christmas shenanigans. It has awesome comedy and a sense of energy about it that you can’t easily replicate.

I thought I suggest it as even if you don’t end up reviewing it for the website it’s just a really entertaining and heartfelt show to watch with a lot of zany off the wall humor.

  14. My apologies for writing two separate comments but I think Jee-woon Kim’s “I Saw the Devil” could make the list (even though I wouldn’t recommend it).

  15. I didn’t see 1980 The Lathe of Heaven. Excellent movie on the book by Ursula Le Guin. Thought provoking and weird and well done for a public television production.

  16. Heyo! Big fan here.

Might I suggest a review for Heaven and Earth Magic? The movie’s available on YouTube in its entirety and it’s honestly one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen in a while – and that’s coming from a huge fan of weird movies.

  17. “I Never Left the White Room” deserves at a Weirdest! or Beware review, at least in my opinion.

    1. Maybe it will earn both. Sorry, but I cannot say how soon we would get that far into the queue—I wouldn’t hold my breath, though. Your best chance to get anything reviewed is to remember to vote for it the next time we post a reader poll.

  18. I’m kind of shocked that no one seems to have suggested Best F(r)iends (Volumes 1 & 2) yet. They’re the follow-up to The Room, and SO much weirder.

    1. When I first saw the first volume I went home and wrote that if it was a 10/10 for weirdness I wasn’t even comfortable calling Eraserhead a 9, because at least Eraserhead is internally consistent. It also miraculously cured my mental illness for a week. Still not sure why.

  19. Has Nicolas Roeg’s The Witches been suggested before? That film feels like the amalgamation of everything that is weird and demented about Roald Dahl. I think if anything it should be discussed.

  20. As much as I don’t think this movie is good, Monkeybone by Henry Sellick should be on the list. It’s a movie that feels tinkered with by the studio, but the imagery, especially in the Down Town segments are stuff I haven’t seen many studio films done before or after.

  21. I’m not sure if it’s been suggested yet, but I feel the farcical, insanity of Freddy Got Fingered is at least worth a look.

  22. Valhalla Rising and The Witches Of Eastwick were both very good and very weird, and left me with strange feeling in me guttiwuts

  23. Hello, I didn’t saw “Flesh of the Void” (2007) directed by James Quinn on the lists. It very similar to Begotten, I actually don’t know if there are physical copies but i rent it on vimeo.
    Keep up the good work!
