Discussed in this episode:

Alice in Wonderland musical (202?): Here’s a project based on a “trippy, picaresque novel” (Variety‘s words) that is almost certain to not be weird. Apparently trying to recapture the box office magic of Wicked, Universal Pictures is putting an “Alice in Wonderland” movie into production, starring pop singer Sabrina Carpenter. Hopes are not high ’round here.  Variety drops the news.

Arco (2025): A time-traveling, rainbow themed boy from the future travels “back” to 2075. Neon views it as a marketable enough property to bring in Will Ferrell, America Ferrera,  , and (who also co-produced) to do dubbing. Arco official site.

The Boy and the Heron (2023): ‘s final (?) film fantasy gets a re-release as part of the “Ghibli Fest” series, from Nov. 14 (today) to Wednesday, Nov. 19. Read Gregory J. Smalley’s Apocrypha Candidate review. Search for a theater near you.

Boys Go to Jupiter (2024): Read Giles Edwards’ Apocrypha Candidate review. ‘s one-man Blender-animated labor-of-love about young Billy 5000 finding an alien while struggling in the gig economy is out on VOD now. Also see our interview with Julian Glander. Rent or buy Boys Go to Jupiter.

Cafe Flesh (1982): Read Terri McSorely’s review. The post-apocalyptic art-house film with some explicit sex arrives on 4K UHD (previously available on Blu-ray).  Buy Cafe Flesh.

Daniela Forever (2024): A depressed man recreates his lost lover through lucid dreaming. This possibly weird sci-fi outing from the director of Timecrimes is now on Blu-ray. Buy Daniela Forever.

Eva Man (1980)/The Return of Eva Man (1982): This Italian sex comedy (and sequel) about a hermaphrodite is extremely rare, but those who’ve seen it report that it is quite bizarre. Now on Blu-ray from Mondo Macabro, these have never been seen on disc before (at least, not in the U.S.). Buy Eva Man/The Return of Eva Man.

“The Luc Besson Collection”: This set of films from the cult director includes the following: La Dernier Combat, Atlantis, Angel-A (Blu-ray only); Subway, The Big Blue, La Femme Nikita, Leon: The Professional, The Fifth Element, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (on both Blu-ray and 4K UHD). Buy “The Luc Besson Collection”.

Mr. K (2025): Read Enar Clarke’s review. The surreal -led hotel-set feature is now available for everyone to check out on VOD. Buy or rent Mr. K.

Oriental Snatch (202?): is brewing up a new project: a swinging-70s set spoof about the aftermath of the D.B. Cooper caper. With an armored Nazi alligator, apparently. You can invest in it at WeFunder. Oriental Snatch at WeFunder.

“Shudder: A Decade of Fearless Horror”: This Blu-ray set includes Terrified (2018), The Mortuary Collection (2019), The Dark and the Wicked (2020), Host (2020), VHS/94 (2021), Caveat (2022), Skinamarink (2023), Late Night with the Devil (2024), and In a Violent Nature (2024). But the big draw for us is ‘s Apocryphally Weird stop-motion hellscape, Mad God. Buy “Shudder: A Decade of Fearless Horror”.

WHAT’S IN THE PIPELINE:

No guest scheduled on Pod 366 next week, but Greg and Giles will return to discuss the week’s news and new releases before Thanksgiving break. In written content, Shane Wilson ogles 8 1/2 Women (1999), Enar Clarke defies the Pet Shop Boys proclamation that It Couldn’t Happen Here (1987), Giles Edwards finally covers Finally Dawn (2023), and Gregory J. Smalley puts Forever Daniela (see above) to rest. Onward and weirdward!

  1. Just to clarify, ‘Anonymous’ is actually what one’s called on this site if the the ‘Name’ box is left empty when posting a comment (if that was meant to be a sardonic joke, please forgive me lacking the sense of irony).

BTW, I’m really anxious about what you’ll have to say about 8 1/2 Women.
