The biggest surprise of the first round was not an upset, but the fact that Gummo, the overall #1 seed, only garnered 54.2% of the votes against unheraldedSkidoo. Does that suggest that the favorite may have trouble in its second round matchup against The Wicker Man (which defeated arthouse fave Belle de Jour rather easily, with 2/3s of the vote)?
Other intriguing second round matchups include recent bizarre favorite Enter the Void vs. old weird warhorse Brazil, and crazy cult classic Donnie Darko against freaky Nipponese newcomer Funky Forest: The First Contact.

Well, of course it did. Although both are excellent films, there really is no comparison whatsoever. Alas, it does go a considerable distance to show that predictability and populist conservatism in taste are the upper hands, even amongst weird movie lubbers.
