We’re not sure if Bruce McDonald‘s dreamy hitman/jazz musician fantasia is actually playing in many theaters—very few are open in the U.S., after all—but we are sure it will simultaneously debut on VOD

Alamo on Demand: While art-house theater chain Alamo Drafthouse has been pushing new streaming releases, the section of their site devoted to deep catalog titles is well-hidden. And yet, this area houses a plethora of interesting and, yes, weird movies, including 366 Canon entries Death Laid an Egg, A Field in England, Forbidden Zone, Glen or Glenda, Godmonster of Indian Flats, The Greasy Strangler, I Will Walk Like a Crazy Horse, Mood Indigo, and Why Don’t You Play in Hell? Although most of these can be found elsewhere (and often cheaper), there are a few titles (such as those distributed by Vinegar Syndrome) that are, to our knowledge, not streaming on other services. If you want to support Alamo in the face of a pandemic that may be an existential threat to their deep-cut-movies-as-social-phenomenon business model, you may not mind paying a few extra dollars for the privilege. WHAT’S IN THE PIPELINE: We’re going to shoot for a Netflix Party next week—June 13—and may go to a biweekly schedule from here on out. Look for details soon. Meanwhile, speaking of Netflix and parties, next week Giles Edwards will explain to all of you what you missed when you skipped our screening of Escape from the “Liberty” Cinema. And fresh off his review of the original “Boogiepop Phantom,” Gregory J. Smalley looks at Madhouse’s sorta-semi-sequel “Boogiepop and Others.” Quarantine season is cooling down (hopefully), but we’ll keep it weird as the summer heats up. Onward and weirdward!

Blood Machines looks awesome! Visually it takes from the neo(n) psychedelics of Mandy and fuses it with a 1980’s synthesized, H.R. Giger-inspired alien canvas. Gritty, weird, spacey looking.
Exclusively on Shudder, right? Looks like they broke it up into three episodes.
Boogiepop and Others is not a sequel in even a “sort of” way. It’s just the animated adaptation of the original books (and so Phantom is more like a sequel to it, in a roundabout way).
