I believe a “thank you” is in order for all the companies that are making advertisements less monotonous for their viewers. David Lynch was, once again, commissioned to make a short to promote a product, and this sponsor, Dior, seems just as unlikely as the last (42 Below Vodka).

To avoid disappointment, be informed that Lynch held back a little on his eldritch style. It has an otherworldly feel to it, but it’s weirdness pales in comparison to some of his more famous work.

Using Lego bricks for stop motion animation is all the rage nowadays, but we’ve never seen anyone use the technique with as much artistry as Swedish techno band rymdreglage does in this experimental music video. Enjoy Lego wizardry at it finest!

SATURDAY SHORT: HARVIE KRUMPET (2003)

We can easily infer that the Academy Award winner for Best Animated Short Film is not going to be our most outlandish Saturday Short. Still, “Harvie Krumpet” was certainly peculiar enough, and, without doubt, professional enough to have captured our attention. At over twenty-minutes long, it better fits the label short-film than any other Saturday Short we’ve posted. It nearly has the plot and character development of a full-length film, and almost solely compromises on time.

CONTENT WARNING: This short contains brief animated nudity and a scene of mild sexual content.

SATURDAY SHORT: DEREALISER LA FAILLE (2010)

Hedonistic, claustrophobic, original, and downright weird; “Derealiser La Faille” is a nightmare toying with our senses and psyche. Trust me, this one will remain in your subconscious for the remainder of your day.

SATURDAY SHORT: THE ADVENTURES OF MR. COO #4 (2007)

In this fourth installment of The Adventures of Mr. Coo, Mr. Coo turns into a carrot, explodes as a castle, makes amends with a car, etc. Although this is the fourth episode, it won’t make much more sense than the first three. This series is focused more on awe-inspiring animation than plot.

After years of experimenting with art, and enjoying a good share of success, Nina Paley decided to cover a controversial subject: overpopulation. Although opinions of “The Stork” were mixed, it did quite well, and was screened at Sundance in 2003.

Although “Cycles” is far from being Cyriak’s weirdest concoction, we found it to be among his better quality releases. In it, the Worthington sea-front is overwhelmed by an innumerable gang of giant teddy bears.

It’s true, many of us had a difficult childhood, but, after a vicarious look at Connie and Colleena, hopefully those bad experiences seem a little less severe. We hereby give Louella Gallager a Bronze Medal in knife throwing, and a Gold Medal in questionable parenting.

42 Below isn’t the only vodka brand to seek out oddball directors to help market their product. Absolut Vodka commissioned Tim, Eric, and Zach to make three commercials for their website. Having carte blanche, all Tim, Eric, and Zach had to do in each commercial was mention the product.
